The Tranquility has recently become home to several enterprising characters, and therefore, several new character businesses and operations. If your character has started up a business, and would like it listed here, please place the NAME OF YOUR BUSINESS or BUSINESS TYPE in the subject line and comment below with the following:
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Who started/runs the business? CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):username BUSINESS LOCATION: Where's the business located? BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: Describe your business with a short summary. What purpose does it serve? What does it look like? LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO: If you can find something suitably sci-fi, that's great! If not, that's also cool—we just want to get a feel of what you think this business space will look like. This part is OPTIONAL, but if you decide to link a picture, make sure it's at least 400x400 pixels, please!
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Hatter CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):teashop BUSINESS LOCATION: Oxygen gardens BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: The tea 'house' isn't much to look at, at least not yet, but it's green and inviting and homely, at least. There are stolen kitchen chairs, tables, and rec room couches strewn across the soft grass in the corner of one of the oxygen garden's levels, and a thick leafy canopy shielding the area from the artificial lights. A bank of other such stolen kitchen materials is wedged in between two trees and the wall; there's an electric kettle on the makeshift counter, and on the makeshift counter is a small paper specifying what kinds of teas can be made. On appropriated shelves are a row of large glass jars with the dried teas inside, labeled helpfully. This is a public place for characters to come drink some tea and relax, should the opportunity call for it. Hatter may or may not be there at any given time, but the tea always is. CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Nathan Petrelli and Murphy Pendleton CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):cargojet and yardbird BUSINESS LOCATION: Oxygen gardens BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: The outdoor chapel was built in the oxygen gardens to hold a quiet place of worship for those with a variety of religious values, not just one. Therefore, it is not a standard chapel made up of crucifixes or rosaries or Mother Mary statues or what have you, but simply a plain-looking altar. It started off with regular chairs, though Murphy has made the time to accommodate the setting with functional, metal pews that have aligned between five rows on either side, totaling to ten long pews. Our friendly neighborhood convict had also scrambled together some stolen material from the Strela outpost to be able to build a covered area in the gardens as well, mostly out of scrap metal and whatnot. Regular services are held every Sunday for sharing stories, mourning recent losses, and quiet reflection. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO:This is probably an accurate style to what the end result is intended to be (sans the crosses and wood, as it's mostly been thrown together using a lot of scrap metal).
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: "Todd"/Guide CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):theguidinghand BUSINESS LOCATION: Chemical Labs (Science Department, level 3) BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: A facility for growing simple Wraith technologies, the majority of which is organic. As in alive.
Thus far the only laboratory on level 3 that has had any kind of clean-up done to it, the Biolab also stands out for housing what appears to be an aquarium full of pond scum. It isn't pond scum, but it is equally slimy, disgusting, and hazardous to your health - and infinitely more useful. The aquarium is the housing for the Biolab's biopolymer-producing pathogen colony, which Todd can "train" to produce crude versions of some modern Wraith technologies. The pathogen is non-contagious, but it is still infectious if it makes contact with bodily fluids. Best handle it with care.
He's made it his first project to inject a few creature comforts into his new lair, so the lab is dimly-lit, heavily humidified, and covered from floor to ceiling in visceral vines. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO:Here.
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Petyr Baelish & Alayne Stone CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):seem & wont BUSINESS LOCATION: » 005 BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: Since discovering that there's no physical library on board the ship, Petyr has begun collecting hardcopies of books and offering to lend them out. As of yet, the collection is still fairly small, but Petyr has moved the books out of his room and into one of the spare ones on the same floor. It is simply meant to provide a hub for the hardcopy books on board the Tranquility for those who would prefer them. Both Alayne and Petyr are actively looking to expand the collection, and will accept assistance with managing the books as necessary. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO: N/A
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Alayne Stone CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):wont BUSINESS LOCATION: » 005 | located adjacent to Petyr's library BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: Though Alayne's talents with needle and thread often trend toward the medieval, she has found that clothes from home have become something of a precious commodity and so has begun to openly offer her skills to the ship as service. Given that she has been gifted with very little cloth from home, Alayne readily accepts donations of unwanted clothes as well as linens stripped from the beds. These donations are then bolted and stored atop one of the beds in tidy stacks, often sorted by color (some of the bolts having been dyed to varying degrees of success with Miss Alder's help). Alayne accepts both trade of goods for services as well as an exchange of skilled labor for skilled labor. She does not accept coin as payment for her services; she will more readily accept the promise of a future favor, though she decides who's favor is good enough credit on a case-by-case basis. Although her primary skill is embroidery and stitchwork (offered as an attempt to personalize the generic uniforms), she also offers to mend clothes as well as sew new ones. Since arriving aboard the Tranquility she has learned how to fashion more modern clothing, though her repertoire is limited. If Alayne is unfamiliar with a given article of clothing, she may ask for a piece as reference or guide. Quite often Alayne can be found next door, keeping her 'father' company in the lending library. She is always in the company of her direwolf, Lady. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO: None!
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Started by Spock for teaching purposes, now gifted to the communications department. CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):firstofficer BUSINESS LOCATION: Passenger Quarters| » 001 BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: Initially designed as a place where one might learn or improve upon technological security, in the months that have passed this room has seen significant adjustment. Accessible to and designed to serve the Communications department, individuals will find a series of rounded tables and several expanses of available consoles. While a section of the room remains undeveloped, the majority of the area is equipped with varying screens to assist in monitoring accessible communication of the ship at large. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO:LINK &LINK
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Started by Kirk, now used by the Security Team CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):goldshirt BUSINESS LOCATION: Passenger Quarters | » 001 BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: In the interests of organization, it was brought to the attention of the security team that a meeting area was in order. While, previously, there may have been a meeting room on the Tranquility, none of the passengers were able to locate anything clearly labeled as Security. As such, Dean Winchester (wave one, no longer on board) and Jim Kirk selected a medium sized board room for the security team to hold meetings in. Next to the door is a plaque reading SECURITY. Inside, there is a long table lined with chairs and a console that has been manually set up for record keeping. A holographic view screen covers most of the far facing wall. The files kept here are under encryption and, generally, are maintained by Edgeworth. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO:one | two
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Justin Taylor & Brian Kinney (and Wichita as barkeep) CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):kingofbabylon, heterophobe (cons) BUSINESS LOCATION: Passenger Quarters, in one of the pre-established rec rooms/bar things BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: Justin and Brian have turned one of the abandoned rec rooms to a half-club, half-bar sort of establishment, utilizing the bar already installed to mix drinks at while running extra supplies from what alcohol they pilfer from the various kitchens on board. Seeing as there's no economy to speak of on the ship, drinks are essentially free, unless you really feel like paying, then you can barter with them for stuff, though it's not necessary. They are getting you drunk out of the goodness of their hearts.
Before his untimely demise, Sherlock had helped Justin set up a PA system in the room, so there is working music from the various CDs Justin had come onto the Tranquility with, but DJs and live music, if that's your thing, are always welcomed. If you'd like to host anything in this place, feel free to do so, just drop a note to Jen or Kat so we know what's up. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO: Just snagged from the locations page, it should look like this and this.
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Fili, Kili, & Guinevere CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):longestnose BUSINESS LOCATION: Shuttle Bay (tentative) BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: A rudimentary forge has been placed in one of the cargo areas by Fili and Kili. By using scraps from engineering and other things they've found from around the ship, they build the device. Their own tools had come in during their first appearance on the ship. They've had to resort to wood instead of coal for now, to heat it. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO: Something very simple like this LINK . I'll try to provide more when I find them.
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Hannibal Lecter CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):sweetbreads BUSINESS LOCATION: Oxygen Gardens BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: Hannibal reappropriated the delapidated tearoom after his discovery of it, saving the old and rotted furniture with elbow grease and honey wine vinegar and throwing out anything beyond use. The place is hardly offensive, well lit but overgrown around two sides and therefore all but concealed except to those who know it by sly use of reed weaving and large leaves green eaves. A single tarpaulin for the most part protects a hardwood cabinet handmade for the tea leaves, a deep teakettle, and an ancient harpsichord, the inside panel displaying a macabre image of the mares of Diomedes devouring their master. A series of small planters have been established nearby, in what light is available, growing several examples of edible plants and herbs that Hannibal had gathered from his expeditions into the jungle. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO:Weave | Harpsichord | Room and light
CHARACTER(S) INVOLVED: Ned, Charlotte Charles, (Veronica Mars) CHARACTER JOURNAL(S):onetouch, inspirited, (sleuthtastic) BUSINESS LOCATION: adjacent to the Oxygen Gardens BUSINESS DESCRIPTION: A small, cozy bakeshop has been set up in an empty compartment across the way from the gardens. Because that's where Ned gets most of his supplies and it's a high-traffic area, it seemed like a natural choice. Veronica offered to waitress for Ned and Chuck in their tiny pie-baking front in space, and they agreed. Grand opening to take place very shortly, and from ever after there will be pie on the spaceship Tranquility. LINK TO REFERENCE PHOTO: Something similar to but much simpler than LINK. As you can see, Ned's aesthetic is much more colorful than one might initially expect.
