MEDICAL
reachable by the blue lifts
❝ The in-ship hospital. Although the ship currently seems to lack a chief medical officer—or a medical staff of any kind—the automated systems in the medbay itself are perfectly capable of taking care of basic medical emergencies without human assistance. It is recommended, however, that passengers avoid putting themselves at risk for physical harm while the Tranquility is operated by a skeleton crew. ❞ ![]() Otherwise known as stasis pods, these couches are located at the far end of the medbay. They protect crew members from the immense G-forces generated by the jump drive. Gravity couches are essentially large pods full of clear blue liquid; crew members are put into stasis while inside the couches in order to prevent accidents while the jump drive is engaged. The liquid works with the nanites in order to provide nutrients for the body and to assist the healing proces. This is where characters wake up for the first time aboard the ship. Barring special circumstances, if you do not get into a gravity couch before a jump, you will die. Nastily. ![]() Lockers are also located inside the medical bay, inside an alcove just off the main room. These lockers are neatly labeled with passengers' numbers, each one accessible via the nanites in the tattoo, and contain both some small items of sentimental value to the passengers as well as a ship's uniform sized to fit each passenger exactly. It's... best not to think about how that happened. M E D B A Y Upon leaving stasis, just beyond the gravitation chamber, you'll find the open space of Medbay. This department is equipped to perform entirely independent of human involvement, but as time has passed you'll find that medical is now attended by your fellow passengers, operating on a series of shift rotations. Not unlike the other specialties, medical is equally susceptible to loss and appears consistently in need of volunteer assistance. Admittance to the bay at large is dependent upon security clearance. For example, all passengers will be able to access bandages, low level pain medication and the like, assistants will be able to access equipment to assess a patient's vitals, and doctors will have access to controlled substances and patient medical files. ![]() C H A M B E R S Alongside the out patient chamber with it's portable gurneys, there are a series of labeled, sealable rooms. Quarantine is a simple, sterilized room, and is present in the event that a contagion or an individual requiring medical attention who may be potential dangerous needs to be separated from the rest of the ship. The bed contains high tension restraints and is windowless, save the point of entry. Doctors or visitors must walk through two sets of doors and undergo a small decontamination upon entering or leaving the quarantined area. Often, if a strange compound or foreign entity is brought on board, it will find itself in quarantine. The large decontamination chambers operate in a conveyor like fashion using a gaseous chemical. Individuals can be processed either lying down on a mobile gurney or standing of their own volition. Smaller chambers are present for the decontamination of equipment or small objects. All surgeries are conducted in their own designated room, and the technology allows for even highly complex surgeries to be programmed into the system. Operations that are more delicate in nature, or require split second decisions (such as childbirth) require an on-hand medical officer. Individuals accessing surgery will be prompted for their passenger number. ![]() ![]() ![]() Everything in medical is highly advanced and highly efficient. All equipment undergoes an automated sterilization process provided it's returned to it's rightful place, and will be ready for use within minutes. While manual use equipment (such as needles and scalpels) are present, most of the utilities are designed to be self sustaining, complete with holographic, programmable consoles able to perform both delicate and complex procedures. Medical files are kept in the computer under encryption and can be accessed through stationary consoles or through portable datapads, provided you have the correct clearance. Nearly all of the equipment is in good repair, with the exception of minor damages, such as ripped restraints.
S U P P L I E S Not every situation will require an extended visit to medical bay. Supplies found within the hospital range from healthy lifestyle items to kits designed expressly for use in emergencies. These items require less clearance to access, as they tend to encompass basic necessities. Like the equipment, items appear enhanced for efficiency—if occasionally gouged or dented.
S Y N T H E S I S With the expansion of science in health care, synthesis has become a unique and irreplaceable function within the medical field. The Tranquility itself possesses the technology and equipment necessary to artificially generate blood, limbs, and organs for surgical use- as well as a plethora of in demand pharmaceuticals. Should characters require a medication unique to their condition or primary universe, it will need to be provided through the lockers (see item request page) or chemically engineered in the ship's science labs before synthesis may be attempted. All other medication (acetaminophen, morphine, valium, etc) are already present and are synthesized as stocks require. ![]() The morgue is designed for temporarily holding the deceased before and after autopsies, or until a proper space burial can be held for the individual in question and contains 100 lockable cells. The temperature in this room is substantially lower than the rest of medical, but since no living person is meant to be here for an extended length of time, the discomfort should be minimal. Mobile coffins are kept in storage adjacent to the morgue, and there are two cremation ovens available for the fast and safe destruction of biological material. While the morgue lacks any remnant of human occupation, just like the rest of the ship, some of the chrome seems to be stained, and a few of the locks are broken on the holding cells. Similarly, 20 cells won't seem to open no matter how hard you try to access their contents. The morgue is accessible to anyone working in medical. ![]() ![]() |
